Ron Richey grew up in Edmonton, Alberta. At the age of 6, he watched the first astronauts blast into space and immediately started drawing rocket ships on every piece of paper his mother would give him. When paper wasn’t available, bedroom walls and assorted furniture fell victim to his pencils. His mother quickly figured out that art lessons would keep him from defacing her new home.
From an early age Ron loved to get outdoors and explore his surroundings. You could find him in the backyard searching for bugs or riding out to the edge of town to wade through the swamps, searching for tadpoles. He is still fascinated by the beauty of nature from the tiniest creature to the vast expanse of the night skies.
Having access to his father’s old 35mm camera ignited another creative outlet. Photography became a passion for him as a teenager. He quickly discovered that his photos could be a wonderful tool to transform his images into paintings.
All of these activities led Ron to pursue a degree in fine art. He attended university in Oklahoma where he received a degree in Art Education. Upon returning to Canada he began a career as a graphic artist at a local printing house.
Ron is currently building a home studio in which he will be able to explore new and exciting avenues to satisfy his artistic inspirations.
